“Students are not all the same, so I cannot use one form of instruction to reach them all, but I believe that I can reach each child,” stated Cummins.

Mary Harris, a special education teacher at Meador, took the Elementary Teacher of the Year honors. She endeavors to relate classroom concepts to the real world.

“When students make the connection to the real word, they see the relevance and learn to apply the knowledge in their everyday lives,” explained Harris.

Secondary Paraprofessional of the Year, Lorena Wilson, works with ESL (English as a Second Language) students at Brabham Middle School. She believes education is essential for students to succeed in life.

Monica Johnson, Elementary Paraprofessional of the Year, assists in P.E. classes at Hardy Elementary. She values the unique characteristics of each student and fosters mutual respect with the children she meets each day.

“They were nominated by their peers and were chosen for this honor by the District Education Improvement Committee,” stated Lisa Severns, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction.

“These individuals are wonderful representatives of the dedicated staff throughout our district,” Severns continued. “Every day they demonstrate a willingness to go above and beyond to help our students achieve success.”
